Olathe Crush Lacrosse is changing their name to Olathe Jokers Lacrosse in rememberance of John "Mac" McCarthy.  John was the brother of Olathe Crush co-founder Rob McCarthy.  After a 2 1/2 year battle with leukemia, John passed away on July 25th, 2012.

John was born on April 24, 1965, and was raised in Syracuse, New York.  He graduated in 1983 from West Genesee High School where he was an accomplished athlete in both football and lacrosse.  His lacrosse team went on to win two NY State Championships in 1982 and 1983.  After high school, John went on to attend Cortland State University in New York, where he received a BA in Economics and continued to play lacrosse.  His aggressive play earned him the distinction of All-American Defender for the Red Dragons in 1987.

A job opportunity eventually took John to Central Florida.  It was here that he founded Jokers Lacrosse Club and worked tirelessly to grow the club from its original twelve players in its infancy to more than 200 youth players and coaches.  In 2011, US Lacrosse named John their "Man of the Year for Florida".  This was a tremendous honor and indicative of his many contributions to the sport of lacrosse and truly indicative of a man that gave back to the sport that gave him so much.  John loved the sport of lacrosse and he touched the lives of so many young players and coaches throughout the lacrosse world.
